Aga Khan Palace, Pune

The Aga Khan Palace was built in 1982 by Sultan Mohammad Shah Aga Khan III in 1892. The palace played an important role in the Indian freedom movement as it served as a prison for freedom fighters Mahatma Gandhi, Sarojini Naidu and Mahadev Desai. Both of them later died here in confinement. In the palace there are several rooms with photos and portraits of Mahatma Gandhi. The palace is open every day from 9 am to 5.30 pm.
 

Kasturba Samadhi, Pune

Kasturba was the wife of Mahatma Gandhi. The Kasturba Samadhi is located in the Aga Khan Palace. After Kasturba breathed her last here, her body was laid in the complex and a small memorial was built.
 

Osho Commune International, Pune

Also known as Osho Ashram. It was founded by Rajnish Osho. The ashram offers residential courses on meditation and simplistic way of living. People come from far and wide to enlist for the various residential courses. They have to undergo compulsory HIV tests before they can enrol in any course. A video presentation is available for visitors and the tour lasts for about an hour. Timings of tour are 9.15 am and 2 pm.
 

Shaniwar Wada Palace, Pune

This popular monument in Pune was built in 1729 by Peshwa Baji Rao. The compound has several trees, courtyards and fountains. Shaniwar Wada is worth a visit when you are staying in Pune. Timings are 8 am to 6 pm. There is a sound and light show every evening at 8.15 pm (except Wednesday).
 

Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum, Pune

This museum was nuilt by a collector called Dr. Dinkar G Kelkar. It has many pieces of architecture from temples across Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan. There are utensils from the 19^th century and Sawantwadi dolls from the 18^th and 19^th centuries. There are over 20,000 articles in all. The museum is open daily from 9.30 am to 5.30 pm.
 

Pataleshwar Cave Temple, Pune

The 8^th century Pataleshar Cave Temple is located on Jungli Maharaj Road. The cave temple is quite interesting and similar to the rock cut temples of Ellora near Aurangabad. Timings are 6 am to 9.30 pm.
